This work examines the reconstruction of an art historical image through a local and cultural figure. The reference to the Faces of War (1940) by Salvador Dali operates beyond formal resemblance, establishing a structural continuity in the representation of fear. The identical dimensions of the two works emphasize that this relationship is a deliberate, direct, and conceived as a visual transformation.
While Dali constructs the universal horror of war through multiplying faces, this work reconsiders that structure through the figure of Gulyabani. Rooted in folcloric and cinematic memory, Gulyabani is removed from a sigular "monster" depiction and repositions as a carrier of culturally produced fears. The blue-toned surface suggests that fear is not a fixed image, but a structure that is continuously reproduced and circulated.
The collage embedded within Gulyabani's eyes is composed of facial expressions taken from the film Süt Kardeşler, capturing moments when characters encounter the creature. These expressions foreground reactions to fear rather than fear itself, allowing the gaze to multiply-from the source of fear to faces, and from faces into collective memory.
The works reveals the permeability between universal images of fear and localized narratives. This oscillation between the familiar and the uncanny invites the viewer to reconsider how fear is produced, repeated, and rendered persistent through cultural representations.

About the Artist
Pınar Soytürk (1986, Balıkesir, Türkiye), Anadolu Üniversitesi İngilizce Öğretmenliği Bölümü’nden mezun olmuş; sanata duyduğu ilgiyi zamanla profesyonel üretim pratiğine dönüştürmüştür. 2017 yılında İzmir’de Monart Resim Atölyesi’nde Güzel Sanatlar hazırlık eğitimi almış, 2019 yılından itibaren aynı atölyede resim öğretmeni olarak çalışmaya başlamıştır. 2023 yılında Ege Üniversitesi Görsel İletişim Tasarımı Bölümü’nde desen dersi vermiş ve ilk kişisel sergisini burada gerçekleştirmiştir.
2024 yılından bu yana Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Eğitim Bilimleri Enstitüsü Resim-İş Eğitimi yüksek lisans programında çalışmalarını sürdürmekte; akademik araştırmalarını sanatsal üretimiyle paralel olarak geliştirmektedir.
Soytürk’ün çalışmaları, kadın bedeni, doğa ve insan anatomisi arasındaki ilişkileri dönüşüm, sınırlar ve erotizm kavramları üzerinden ele alır. İzmir’de yaşayan ve üretimlerini sürdüren sanatçı, karma sergiler ve kolektif sanat projelerine aktif olarak katılmakta; bedenin dönüşen anlatılarını farklı bağlamlarda yeniden yorumlayarak izleyiciyle buluşturmaktadır.
