Preparing Your Spotlight

Let’s talk about preparing for your Spotlight — when to submit, what to prepare, and how to show up with intention. We’ll walk through the essentials, but also leave space for spontaneity. After all, some of the best Spotlights happen when the timing feels right, not just when everything feels “perfect.”

When to Spotlight

You’ll hear different opinions about the best time to join Spotlight — some artists prefer early-week launches for maximum visibility, others follow their own momentum. Here’s what you need to know:

🗓 Weekly Rhythm

Spotlight begins every Sunday at 00:00 (Istanbul time) and runs through Saturday at 23:59. Once you submit, your series enters the Coming Soon page, where it can build early interest before the week begins.

✅ Best Day to Submit

If you don’t have a fixed deadline, we recommend submitting your series on Monday morning (Istanbul time).
Why?

  • Your series stays longer on the Coming Soon page
  • You have more time to share and gather support
  • You avoid the last-minute rush before the deadline

If you already feel buzz building — maybe someone shared your work, or you just had a strong exhibition — don’t wait. Spotlight is built to catch momentum. Timing your submission to match your current energy can be just as powerful as planning far ahead.

The best moment to join Spotlight is when you’re ready — not when everything is perfect, but when you’re present.

In short, choose a time that reflects your own rhythm and goals. Spotlight rewards consistency, clarity, and courage more than any perfect timing formula.

Submitting Your Series

Anyone with a completed artist profile can submit a series to Spotlight when they’re ready to share their work. There’s no approval process, no waiting list — just your art, your voice, your moment.

To submit your series:

  1. Go to your Dashboard
  2. Click on the Spotlight page
  3. Select the series you want to feature
(If you don’t have one yet, create a new series first)

Once submitted, your series will appear on the Coming Soon page until the next Spotlight week begins. Use this time to invite your community and build early support.

You don’t need permission to be seen — just intention and presence.

Your Content Checklist

Before you hit “Submit,” take a moment to make sure everything is in place. A well-prepared profile and series not only look professional — they help collectors connect, engage, and reach out.

Here’s your pre-Spotlight checklist:

  • Complete your artist profile
Add a profile photo, cover image, bio, and at least 5 artworks. Don’t forget to include exhibitions or education if you have them.
  • Organize your artworks
Review your uploaded works. Are they clear, relevant, and thoughtfully arranged?
  • Use high-quality images
Upload sharp, well-lit visuals. Poor image quality can distract from strong work — and collectors won’t zoom in to guess what they’re seeing.
  • Check availability status
Make sure each artwork’s sales status is up to date. Don’t lose a potential collector because a work was mistakenly marked “not for sale.”
  • Create your series
If you haven’t already, build a new series that feels cohesive — visually or conceptually.
  • Choose your leading four
Select the four key pieces that represent your series best. These will be the first impression, so make them count.

A clear, intentional presentation doesn’t just help you get seen — it helps you be remembered.

Your First Comment

Your first comment is your hello to the Spotlight community — and it matters more than you think.

Each Spotlight series page includes a space for comments, and your own comment appears right below your series. It’s one of the first things people will read, so it’s your chance to welcome viewers, share your intentions, and give context to your work. Artists who connect directly through their first comment often see stronger engagement and more meaningful conversations.

You’ll be prompted to write it when submitting your series — no need to wait until your Spotlight is live.

What to Include

Think of your first comment as an artist statement, but written for real people — not a press release. Try including:

  • 🖼 A brief intro about you and your practice
  • 🎨 What this series is about and why you created it
  • 🙋‍♀️ Who this work is for — or who you hope it resonates with
  • 💭 Your intention: feedback, conversation, discovery?
  • 🛍 Any notes on availability or special offers
  • 📸 Optional: images, links, videos, or studio shots

And yes — emojis are welcome 😊 (Just use them with intention, like punctuation.)

Pro Tips

  • Keep it personal, honest, and approachable.
  • Avoid overly formal bios or “marketing talk” — people want to hear your voice.
  • Invite feedback, questions, and responses — but don’t ask for votes directly.
  • If possible, stay active during your Spotlight week by replying to comments and starting conversations.

Spotlight is more than a post — it’s a moment of connection. Let your first comment open that door.
