In the "Woman and Root" series, she brings together black-and-white portraits of women with vibrant, traditional carpet patterns to create a visual contrast. This contrast simultaneously reveals the woman's suppression and inner strength.
The women in the portraits do not speak; but their gazes are deep, carrying a power from the past. The black-and-white faces represent the silence of suppressed female identities throughout history, while the background carpet patterns point to 'cultural roots', belonging, and traces of the past.
With this series, she paints not only the woman’s face but also her roots. Each pattern carries a past, each gaze holds a memory. "Woman and Root" is a visual narrative of women who scream through silence and gain strength through their roots.

About the Artist
Burcu Panahi, 1990 yılında İstanbul’da doğdu. Sanat pratiğini kadınların bastırılmışlığı, kimlik arayışı ve kültürel hafıza temaları üzerine kurdu. Özellikle siyah beyaz kadın portrelerine odaklanan Panahi, bu figürleri canlı ve otantik halı desenleriyle birleştirerek sessizlik ve direnç arasındaki gerilimi yansıtır.
Sanatçı Beyanı:
Tüm çalışmalarım, gündelik yaşamın tekrar eden yapısından ve zamanın baskısından uzaklaşma arzusunu yansıtır. Tuval üzerindeki her an, varlığımı kayda geçiren ve sonsuzluğa uzanan bir izdir.
